Just Fore Play 11/2009

While Richard Coleman shopped around for a motorcycle, he stumbled across Kustom Culture Motorcycles’ web site and decided to take a more extensive look at the unique line-up of two wheeled machines from this California-based company. Ultimately, Richard decided to go with a Deluxe Standard model from KCM. See other KCM models in this issue of American Cycle. Kustom Culture Motorcycles can be bought right off the showroom floor at their San Francisco, CA facility, but Richard ordered this baby. It was delivered to him after three months of construction. Paint and graphics were hand applied by Mike Taylor Design in candy apple green and cream colors.

What powers this traditional looking yet very modern motorcycle? A Harley-Davidson® crate motor of the Evolution variety, with 80” of swept displacement, that’s what. The ignition is a Screamin’ Eagle item. That old favorite Harley CV does carburetion duty. Dependable as history is the Harley CV, ask any Evo rider. The exhaust system is a Kustom Culture 2-into-1 arrangement with a Cigar muffler.

A Motor Factory six-speed gearbox accepts power from the Evo motor. The transmission sprocket has a 32-tooth pulley, the rear wheel has 70. You do the math for the final drive ratio. The standard style two-row chain is used on the primary drive with a Rivera Pro Clutch taking the abuse from the motor.
